Search By Signatures

When you delete a file, its entry in Master File Table (MFT) is marked as free and can be overwritten at any moment. Once that happens, all information about the file is lost, including its filename, location (name of the folder that contained it), etc. On the other hand, the contents of the file may still be available, but without the MFT entry we cannot find or recognize it.

Advanced NTFS Recovery can scan the entire contents of your HDD or other storage media and find deleted files that have no valid entries in the MFT. As a result, such files do not have any filenames or extensions, so it's difficult to guess what they are. The program uses signatures to recognize the type of a deleted file. This does not allow to recover its filename, but at least it gives you access to your actual data. You can use the preview feature to check the file's contents and rename it as necessary.

When using the recovery wizard, you can select file types that you are looking for:

If you need to recover all deleted files, select the "All files" option. However, you should take into account that scanning for every possible file type will take much time. This is the slowest method.

To make the search faster, enable as few types as possible. For example, if you deleted some pictures in the JPG format, there is no need to look for videos, documents, and all the other types.
